cal has proved him/her self to not be a libertarian, as cal is very interested in judging the private bedroom practices of others.

I think that cal has some real issues that make him uncomfortable accepting other people's private sexual orientation... too bad his/her parents did such a bad job raising their child, who still exhibits child like behavior.

Clinton: surpluss; Bush: deficit & "great recession"... the problem is not Obama's fault, it is the GOP & Bush, the rest of us just get to clean up after you fools!

He makes the mistake of equating external help (a hand up) with being a victim (being externally pushed down). One must first understand that bad things happen to good people, and that once you do understand that, then it is not hard to see that to be good yourself, you must provide those in need with a hand up (rather than contributing to the forces which would laugh at them and push them back down).

The "observation" has no relationship to reality... nothing new here for a congressman who is elected to represent the rich.

Only DC gets to complain about "taxation withOUT representation"... and the GOP/Tea party continues to insure that this continues. And an AK47 is NOT a "good rabbit gun"... and the only federal tax rate on individuals today that is as high as 46% would be the marginal taxed rate on the highest declared compensation of the self-employed, none of which would be so stupid as to actually pay it as opposed to finding one of the thousands of loopholes which allow it to be lowered (typically down below an effective 15% rate)... so, nothing but lies & exagerations to be read in this quote.

I am pleased to see by their stars that the rest of the respondants see that we need a graduated tax rate system in which the rich pay taxes at higher rates than the middle-class, which in turn pay at higher rates than the poor... now we just need to agree to eliminate loop holes that make the rich's effective rate lower than that of the middle-class.

... and it wouldn't even put a dent into the purchase of the lowest cost weapon systems from the military-industrial complex... if you are going to throw stones, at least throw them at the real culprits...

Yes, a laudable goal... but not the highest obligation.

This quote is just mindless babbling, signifying nothing.

The radical right have so many lies to spread their message of fear, uncertainty and doubt... and this quote is just one more from their pile...

Anonymous, Reston, VA, US

And worse among them are the representatives and members of the radical right...

Its neither true nor humorous, a waste of words.

Another invention of a non-existent problem by the chief priest of the rich.

Waffler has it right. It can only be a sick mind that so prizes "money" as to believe that holding it close is the definition of liberty... such beliefs remind me of the character of Gollum.

Society is not a zero sum game. If it were, we would all still be grunting in a cave, never to better our selves.

Well quoted... nothing says that "money" is only based upon minerals mined from the earth. Such minerals have no inherent value, only the value that human beings grant to them, and such value can be granted to any form of representation... yes Virginia, even to paper money or accounts which live no where other than in a computer's memory.

It is neither theft or slavery, it is paying for the services rendered to you by society. TANSTAAFL.

#1: yes, but who pulled these quotes together? they are the author of these "quotes", not the currency. #2: there is nothing magical about some metal from the ground, the promise of value is what counts.

What he leaves out is who this "we" are... and it ain't you and I, its he & his cronies who are in the big business power seats, not "we the people".

Anonymous, Reston, VA, US

... editor: you are repeating yourself...

Anonymous, Reston, VA, US

What he fails to point out is that in either case, education (which is how you get learning) improves both those with and without natural ability.

The school board is nothing more than another set of words for your neighbors... which are just yourself in the mirror... I have seen the enemy and it is us.

Where is the supposed argument that "one family educating a child at home" has become "a major threat to universal public education and the survival of democracy?" This quote was just a mindless rant for the sake of ranting...

Anonymous, Reston, VA, US

strikes me as one of those "they" arguments... and I love how E argues that only communism wants to educate its children, LOL...
