One popular error today is "we are a democracy". We are, in fact, a Republic. Republic = rule by law, democracy = rule by majority. So if a majority vote to murder you, you will surely die very soon.

Try voting Libertarian ... anything but democratic or republican.

My primary objection tho this quote is the U.S. is a Republic. Calling it a democracy has cause more damage than "ordinary Americans" realize. It's time for the third largest party in the country, Libertarians, to run things. We could have some of our freedoms restored, balance the budget, and stop attacking other countries.

This quote implies only two parties. In the U.S. there are many more, such as Libertarian, Constitution, and Green parties. Neither democrats nor republicans are improving our country, and are in fact destroying it. Tell them they are not following the Constitution, by voting incumbents out of office, and voting for the party that most closely aligned with your beliefs.

The U.S. government definitely is growing larger and more intrusive. One perfect example is The Patriot Act, which in reality is anything but patriotic! It is truly un-American and unconstitutional. So, Reston, VA ... you want the government to tell you what to do?

Mandatory 'anything' is degrading ... seat belts, helmets, airbags, gun locks. Of course government is not liable, they hold themselves above the law. Government says "we know what is good for you, put your seat belt on", then shake their heads saying "what a tragedy, it's not our fault" when a small percentage die wearing it. Face it ... GOVERNMENT DOESN'T WORK !

The U.S. is a Republic, though our government would have you believe we are a democracy. Despotic means too many incomprehensible rules and codes, i.e. the tax code, and arms (gun) registration (anti-2nd Amendment). "Shall not be infringed" is very clear, yet our government despots violate our rights with registrations and bans of varying types. When the 2nd Amendment falls, the 1st will be next. Websites like this one will be shut down and WE will become targets of BATFE, FBI, and police investigations. After all, if we dare say anything about our government, we "could" be terrorists. Thanks to the Patriot Act, the mere suggestion is all they need to break down our doors at 2:00 am.

In socialism everyone is equal, therefore even French refugees deserve a handout. Rather than simply giving them money, they should work to earn their keep. Current day ... immigrants may enter the U.S. but are not entitled to welfare.

Simon, currently 13% of the U.S. population is on welfare. 1 in 8 is NOT few and far between. The percent of those on welfare increases every year.
